- item: Thesis-Abstract"Transition spaces" as "behavior cues" in urban built environments : a study of KandyJayasinghe, TG; Dayaratne, RThe built environment can also be defined as 'behavior setting' (Baker, 1968; as quoted in Rapport ,1977.), which can be considered to provide cues for behavior. It has been . identified that within this spatial container, transition spaces have a significant impact on behavior pattern of people (Lynch, 1972). Amidst the lack of studies on transition spaces, most recent studies were focused upon domestic transition spaces (Lowrance, 1981., Bardesi, 1992 ) and outdoor transition spaces (Kannangara , 1991). It was noted that there's a severe lack in our understanding of transition spaces in other areas, especially in cultural milieu. Therefore this study has been dealt with cultural aspects of transition spaces, as behavior cues.
