As a result of that, novel concepts such as green engineering have appeared in the engineering scenario. This paper describes a procedure developed for designing a helically coiled steam generator (SG) for recovering heat from the flue gas of a furnace. The design was applied to the lead melting furnace operating at Associated Battery Manufacturers (Ceylon) Ltd (ABM), Ratmalana, Sri Lanka, Most available literature deals with experimental investigations regarding correlations for heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops in helically coiled heat exchangers for both single phase and two phase flow regions. The paper presents a systematic procedure for designing a helically coiled SG through this case study.
