dc.description.abstract Prestressed concrete is extensively used in highway and railway bridge constructions. Prestressed concrete combines high-strength concrete with high-strength steel in an "active" manner by tensioning the steel and holding it against concrete. Steel is ductile and made to act in tension by prestressing.
