Home based work/economic activities

Abstract

As the home is a basic human right, people are highly attached to their home places and they attempt to make it as more personalized entity, even in highly restrictive conditions. Home is the place where man has his roots, the foundations of his existence. It is the point of reference from which man orients himself and takes possession of the world. There are many ways of defending the concept of home, and some dimensions could be identified as an attachment to a particular setting, a symbol of self , place of order, privacy, an expression of idinity and physical structure giving stability and security. It a individual house the domains are clearly defined including a series of spaces, starting from the most public to the most private. The space which accommodate this series of transition also accommodates a set of psychic needs such as identity, order, territoriality, privacy etc. As the house is the most personalized space available for man, it has to be moduled and shaped according to his personal needs and desires. With the increase of economic problems people started to perform economic activities at home other than the activities of dwelling without expecting to hamper their qualitative aspects such as identity, territoriality, privacy etc. Therefore the economic activities should be carried out separately without disturbing the living activities.When number of different activities (domestic work, professional work, childcare)occur in the same space, change in the neighborhood and the structure of home, in work and living patterns of people. Identifying these patterns and examine their success or hindrance in accommodating multiple roles, is the basic purpose of this study. And it is need to find out relationship between location in spatial arrangement and the nature of HBEAs. The study was conducted by adopting two research methods: exploratory and descriptive research. and was a cross section survey design including face to face interviews, self administered questionnaires, modified time diaries, photographs, sketches and a physical inventory of the home and workspace of 87 self employed or company employed home workers who involved in various occupations, with average 36 hours a week at home working.
