Looking at the built environment of both the eat and the west it is difficult to spot a convincing different between a "Socialist House" and a "Capitalist House." Although the organization of everyday life, the relationship between the sexes, the provision of communal services and the percentage of people living below the poverty line should and probably do differ theoretically in these two social systems, the basic needs for housing in more dependent on biological means, psychological needs and climatical conditions than political parameters. However he way of responding to and satisfying the needs has become a nature political issue since the destruction of scares resources as land and the protection of the environment are matters which concerns the whole nation. Therefore government had become the major role player in the housing problem. In Sri Lanka, number of strategies have been used to solve the housing problem after the independence. Some were more socialistic kind of strategies and some were more have failed to create a pleasant and livable housing environment. |
