This study is concerned with- the Role of Small Towns
in Regional Development in Sri Lanka, The intention
of this study is to analyse the Role of Small Towns
in the case-study area, and also to formulate some
guidelines that will be useful to develop small
towns for regional development.

The study is present in five chapters,
chapter deals with the concept planning, planning
regions and the regional development.

it will discuss the theoretical basis of town in
the context of a region and the analysis of the
general pattern of their growth.
The second chapter will analyse the Evolution of
Regional Development Planning in Sri Lanka and some
influantial strategies adapted to regional development.
The third chapter discusses the significance of
small towns in the case-study area. It will discuss
in detail the definition of "Urban", classification
of small towns and their distribution patterns,
as well as the role and functions of small towns.
The fourth chapter will deal with the analysis of
the case study area, identifying the existing
potentials as well as any constrains for regional
development.
Finally the fifth chapter will give the conclusion
derived from the previous chapters including the
case-study, and will also give some guidelines and
recommendations for the development of small towns
for the purpose of regional development. |
