In constant, formless and endless space we move and orientate ourselves. Thus because of its inherent qualities make it cannot capture but human senses can feel it. Architecture is the art of space making. Making of space to contain the activities of man and man experiences these spaces. Such experience tends him to connect himself with the space. Those meaningful connections gained through experience man dwell on earth. Through meaningful connections, which arouse a sense of belongings in people towards such spaces. Sense of belongings is an important criterion in producing architecture in especially urban public spaces. For the urban dweller the public space is a space that one experiences the quality of the urban living and makes social interactions. A good amount of time is spent in urban public spaces such as streets, parks playgrounds and markets. Urban public spaces are dynamic spaces where the communal life unfolds, spaces that are accessible to all, spaces that help man to identify
himself with in the urban environment. How such sense of belonging evolves among people of the society? It does not happen mealy the people go to public space. There should have some essential characteristics inherent by the public spaces. Spatial characteristics and social characteristics are the basic characteristics
determine the qualities of such space. Through certain principles public space can obtain those characteristics. Man settled on earth as a social animal. Although the science technology developed social much we can't survive on earth without socially interacting each other. As a result of that, with the emergence of the cities they much more concern about public spaces such as squares, parks
plazas, etc. Thus the public spaces became the heart and the life of the city, which encourage the social interaction. In this context the study, explores the concept of developing an approach to design urban public spaces spatially and socially vibrant. |
