In this study performance and emissions of diesel and diesohols was compared using a Computerized Variable Compression Ratio Multi Fuel Engine Test Rig (VCRMF) with different loads and different compressions ratios. Diesel and diesohols of E5, E10, E15 and E20 were used as fuel where E denotes diesel-ethanol blends. Diesel was used as the benchmark to compare the performance and emissions of diesohol (diesel-ethanol blends). Performance of the engine using blended fuels indicates a significant variation compared to the diesel such as reduction of brake specific fuel consumption up to 27% and increment of brake thermal efficiency up to 40%. Considering emissions of blended fuels, there was a reduction of exhaust gas temperature up to 30% and increment of NOx and SO2 emissions of different diesel-ethanol blends. |
