Abstract

The advent of new computing paradigms, such as Cloud Computing and Software as a Service, have brought the server virtualization technology into mainstream use. Previously, virtual server use was confined mainly to universities and R&D organizations for research or to large corporate users for server consolidation purposes. However, the current trend is for IT infrastructure providers to make virtual servers available as a commodity product that users acquire, configure, use and dispose over the Internet. As the customer demographics for virtual servers move from established corporate clients to the largely anonymous Internet denizens, the frequency of using virtual servers for carrying out frauds, crimes and other illegal activities is also on the increase.
