Reinforce concrete structures are being built from centuries and not all of them serve for their design life as they are exposed to various environmental conditions and sudden loads. There are certain cases, where there is sudden change in functional requirement due to which designed structural elements may not be sufficient due to either of the mentioned two cases, there is a need for retrofitting structural elements, so that they serve for design life and take the extra loads required for new functional requirement.
As technology is progressing in a rapid pace, newer methods are being implemented for retrofitting various elements of structures. This study presents a way of explaining different retrofitting methods, which can be carried out on a column with special focus on strength, service life, space and cost with the help of scaled prototype model. This model can be used at the site to explain workers about the process carried and in the college to educate students. |
