dc.description.abstract Over the past few years, it has been observed that the Information and Communication Technology (lCT) and its infrastructure have been continuously improved in government sector, through agencies like ICTA, and also in private sector organizations with the vision to improve the efficiency of the operations and business processes and to improve the quality of life of Sri Lankan people. Unilever Sri Lanka was incorporated in 1938 and today it is the home for over 20 strong brands and approximately 240 products, that are leaders in all the categories that they operate in, with in the Sri Lankan market and operated under "Home and Personal Care" and "Foods" segments. The Quality Assurance (QA) and Laboratory department of Unilever - Sri Lanka, plays a decisive role in assuring and maintaining the quality of each type of raw material used to make products, products before releasing to the market and the packaging material which is being used for packaging. The QA and Laboratory conducts all the measurements by using techniques that are conductive to a high degree of reliability and follows well recognized laboratory practices. Measurements and tests performed by the laboratory resulting in Certificates, Reports and other summarizing statements which are vital for other departments to continue with. The proposed Laboratory Information Management System for Unilever Sri Lanka, is a cost effective system developed and implemented using the industry recognized technologies and is used by QA and Laboratory department to organize and manage the laboratory information and to effectively and efficiently communicate information with user departments of Unilever Sri Lanka. en_US
