dc.description.abstract The proper selection of suitable Industrial Estate Sites is of great importance, in the development of Industrial Estate Sites. A systematic methodology called “Systematic Procedure in the Selection of Industrial Estate Sites” (SPSIE), which could be used for this purpose, has been developed by a multi-disciplinary team of environmental specialists and engineers. A computer based Expert System called IESE was later developed based on the above methodology. IESE was developed using an Object Oriented Approach in Delphi, a Visual Programming Language within a short time-frame. IESE is a special purpose Expert System. IESE’s Inference Engine can evaluate a specified set of rules, and it includes a trace facility, an external Knowledgebase, external Screen Layouts, and a built in backtracking facility to handle exceptions. Although IESE was originally developed as a tool for the evaluation of suitable Industrial Estate Sites, it has been found that this could be used as a tool for preliminary evaluation of projects preceding a full scale ELA analysis. en_US
