Abstract:
The dissertation has three general goals. The first is to provide a methodology for interpreting 'Place', through perceived images of a particular socio-cultural entity on natural environment. The second is to illuminate the provided methodology in which the 'Place' could understand in a broader perspective, to make a marriage of Science and Art, as metaphors of architecture. The third is to analyse the relationship between Place and Thermal comfort as one of its scientifically quantifiable modifiers in a particular place and time: the city of Colombo, as the commercial hub of South East Asia, and the role played by the Beira Lake for the above, in the 21st century.
