Self and home : an examination of the manifestation of "self" in home

Abstract

Self and Home are constantly used words in architectural vocabulary. There is a common belief that, the home reflects the self of the user. But not many studies have done on this subject to understand the complexity of this issue, when it is related to architect designed houses. The intention of this study is to examine the issues related to the manifestation of self and home in architect designed spaces of home. The study will examine the manifestation of self in built form related to small number of " situations" taken from the local context. At the end, concluding remarks will be drawn out from each situation to understand the relationships and the other circumstances related to the subject.
