The present day river basins need to be:: managed in
such a way to diversify and increase income generation
through the production of natural resources while
ensuring river basin sustenance with the promotion of
environmental conservation. River basin management
cannot be isolated from rivc::r basin planni11g because
effective and efficient management rises form good
planning. Rivc::r basin management needs to look at the
bas1c concepts, the key issues such as preparation of
river basin plans, technical, institutional issues, basin
agencies and stakeholder participation, and securing
reliable decision support systems. This paper attempts
to introduce the river basin management concepts and
issues, along with recommendations to ensure rational
management of natural resources.
