dc.description.abstract Sri Lanka is one of the very few countries in the world that provides free health care to all the citizens. Since Sri Lankan health care institutions are non-profit institutions, acquisition of new technologies and new systems is almost impossible because of the financial barrier, "e - Arogya" is the solution we propose to this problem. It is developed using a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), leveraging open source and using Health Level 7 (11L7) open standards. This paper explores the possibilities achievable for the introduction of ICT in the Sri Lankan health care system, the problems faced in the process and the proposed solution with use of open source software, and open standards in health care.
