The spatial need of a human being is a very complex issue. Furthermore, it cannot be considered as mere part of an individual's physical need. The socio-cultural, psychological as well as the conscious and unconscious behavioral needs of man also play their part. That should also be taken into account in any study done on the matter. Where one's space is restricted, physically and/or emotionally, tightness of space is felt; Tight Space. People have made attempts at understanding this phenomenon both consciously and unconsciously since the advent of civilization, with varying degree of success. In here, it will be attempted is to understand and analyse that restrictive residential space with social, cultural, physiological as well as the psychological factors in mind. Furthermore, it is extended to understand principles and strategies that make restrictive spaces more liveable. |
