This chapter is also concerned with the main objectives of the Local Authorities in the construction of public market bulldin ,s. v Chapter two consists of a review of the certain theoretical concepts on the Location of retail trade. Relevant concepts such as central place theory, gravity and gravity potential models and other related models are considered, concepts to the Local context of Sri Lanka. An attempt is made to relate these Chapter three gives the general back ground to Gampaha District and reviews the existing locational pattern of local authority sponsored .public markets. In chapter four;a critical evaluation of the locational aspects of three selected public markets at Ga ipa -a, Ja-ela and I alwetbuhiripitiya, that is of two urban centres and one village growth point in * the Gampaha District, is carried out. Considerations on the necessity for a Rational policy for the location or public markets comprises chapter five, certain policy guide lines and strategies for the location of public markets and gives emphasis to the procedures for Imple entation of such policy. It also includes Thu study concludes in chapter six with final conclusion and recommendations.
