dc.description.abstract In the recent past, satisfactory- or better quality physical environment has been identified as an important issue in urban planning* Such an environment is expected to provide comfort and convenience for the urban man* In order to achieve a satisfactory urban form it is necessary to formulate some guidelines by evaluating the existing urban environment* This study attempts to evaluate the existing environment of four town centres by identifying the relationship between man and environment, with the intention of formulating some guidelines for designing of town cantres*
