Natural rubber is a well known polymer which is both flexible and highly elastic. However, this material in its virgin state lacks the thermal stability and mechanical properties needed for practical applications. After Goodyear's discovery of vulcanisation, and subsequent developments- in "'J compounding, these disadvantages have been overcome and natural rubber has become an important engineering material.en_US
