Heavy metal pollution of the environment is a major environmental problem facing the modem world. Their persistence in the environment and the difficulty in removal from wastewaters make them available for aquatic and terrestrial fauna. This would enable the transfer of heavy metals up in the food chain causing severe damages in the higher organisms due to bioaccumulation.en_US
