Abstract
With the development of Electric Vehicles (EVs), the transportation sector is experiencing change. Range anxiety and time taken for a charge are extremely important. Therefore, the availability of charging stations in a city is vital to EV users, as they have time to recharge while they attend their necessities in the city. Large and centralized charging stations can be inconvenient for EV consumers since the consumers have to be reach the charging station. Distributed EV charging stations are a possible solution. This paper presents a study on the deployment of distributed EV charging infrastructure tailored to the needs of a city. Vehicle distribution in the selected city was carried out using available parking areas, parking patterns, vehicle survey data on current and future electric vehicles and government statistics. By extrapolating from historical data and observing parking behaviors, optimal locations for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) with Fast Charging capabilities, were identified. Through the methodology, the capacities required for each type of charging station were determined while emphasizing the efficient utilization of resources. The findings highlight the advantages of distributing charging stations strategically across the city over a centralized approach.
