Abstract

Energy and environmental issues on conventional energy sources has been a serious concern due to greenhouse gas emissions, depletion of energy resources and growing demand for electrical energy. Microgrid is an innovative solution researches are focusing as a sustainable energy supply system to utilize reliable and clean energy sources. With the higher penetration of solar PV, together with the increasing use of electronic loads and Electric Vehicles, researches are focusing back on using DC systems and thus, DC microgrids. The objective of this paper is to present the designing of a control strategy for a 48 V radial unipolar DC microgrid. Power control is the main factor that decides the correct operation of a DC microgrid when considering the power sharing between different types of power sources where some being intermittent in nature. To verify the performances of the proposed design and control scheme of the microgrid, a simulation analysis is conducted using Matlab Simulink. Results indicate proper operation of the designed DC microgrid.
