Abstract

This research investigates the development and application of an electrospun nanomembrane for efficient heavy metal ion removal from aqueous solutions. The membrane is composed of locally sourced, carbonized montmorillonite (MMT), chemically modified chitosan, and Polyacrylonitrile. The extraction processes for chitosan and MMT are detailed, including the preparation of magnetic chitosan. The proposed membrane structure incorporates MMT and chitosan seamlessly into the polymer matrix, enhancing performance. Electrospinning of the membrane is carried out with the materials, and subsequent characterization involves SEM and FTIR analyses. Adsorption experiments explore the membrane's efficacy in removing Cr6+ and Pb2+ ions. The methodology and experimental approach aim to push the boundaries of our knowledge concerning electrospun nanomembranes to overcome challenges in wastewater treatment.
