| dc.description.abstract | Building Information Modelling (BIM) is increasingly changing the way construction projects are designed, managed, and delivered around the world. However, BIM implementation in the Sri Lankan construction industry remains limited, and the level of professional awareness is still developing. This study aimed to assess BIM awareness among construction professionals in Sri Lanka and identify strategies for increasing BIM awareness among professionals. A comprehensive literature review was carried out, followed by a structured questionnaire survey distributed among construction professionals from different disciplines in Sri Lanka. The collected data were analyzed using the Relative Importance Index (RII) method to identify the significance of responses. The findings revealed that although many professionals are aware of BIM concepts, only a limited number have received formal training or applied BIM in their professional practice. BIM usage was mainly limited to 3D modelling, with limited use of advanced BIM applications. The most significant barriers identified were the high cost of BIM training and certification, limited BIM training programs, and the shortage of experienced BIM trainers in Sri Lanka. The main strategies identified included introducing more BIM courses in university curricula, increasing professional training opportunities, and encouraging companies to provide workplace-based BIM training to improve BIM awareness and adoption. Addressing these barriers and implementing the identified strategies can help to promote BIM adoption in the Sri Lankan construction industry. | |
