Benefits and needs of adjudication for success of adjudication in Sri Lankan construction industry

Abstract

Ensuring the effectiveness of the adjudication process is crucial in successfully managing the complex landscape of construction disputes in Sri Lanka. As the construction industry plays an essential role in the country's economic development, a robust adjudication mechanism becomes indispensable for timely resolution of conflicts. This research aims to uncover the specific benefits faced by the Sri Lankan construction sector in implementing effective adjudication and proposes needs to enhance their effectiveness. This study followed a qualitative approach that involved a case study analysis and expert validation. Based on these findings, seven case studies were conducted to identify the effectiveness of the adjudication process in achieving the benefits and to determine whether the needs could be addressed to improve the effectiveness of the adjudication process. The case study analysis identified 12 benefits and 13 needs in addition to the overall benefits and needs scores are discussed based on existing literature. Ultimately, by examining the intricacies of the local context, the study aims to provide valuable insights that can enhance the overall efficacy of adjudication in the Sri Lankan construction industry
