dc.description.abstract	In Sri Lanka, different concepts and various ' policies have been adopted in the planning of settlements. Under the Mahaweli Development Project, the strategies adopted were different compared to the early settlement schemes and to the multi-purpose projects. Hence, an evaluation of such policies becomes very essential.
