An air pollution monitoring system capable of detecting and measuring the concentrations of some of the major air pollutant gases has been developed, complying with the IEEE 1451.2 standard. This system is capable of measuring concentrations of pollutant gases such as CO, N02, S02 and 03 using semiconductor sensors. The application that processes the data runs on a personal computer and communicates with the interface module via the Transducer Independent Interface. Three gas sensors were calibrated using the standard calibration methods. As an additional capability, the proposed air pollution monitoring system can generate warnings when the pollution level exceeds beyond a predetermined threshold value.en_US
