Urban space and spatial experience : an exploratory study

Abstract

Experience underlines the key to the meaning of life as it exists. We often think of it as a profound subject, too heavy and incomprehensible to dwell in. Yet it as much a part of our every day existence, a part of life as we know it. It involves the most basic and fundamental aspects of living. Therefore to gain an understanding of it becomes a vital resource to comprehend the world in numerous dimensions by which life evolves it's meaning. As architects we have a lot to do with enabling experience as much as artists and poets seek to do.It become the tool by which we understand and shape the environment. To enable this we must seek ways of how spatially it acquires meaning. A innumerable variety of human emotions and impulses find expression in life Through experience. Man captures the essence of space in it's experience. Space affects us and controls the human spirit, a large of the meaning and emotions derived from the quality of spaces and places in turn are derived from the reality of the space experience.
