Factors influencing sustainable procurement practices in Sri Lankan telecommunication industry

Abstract

Background: The sustainable development concept has obtained significant prominence in the policy and developmental agendas of many countries. Consequently, since the inception of this century supply chain researchers have increasingly focused their attention on the area of sustainable procurement. However, there is a dearth of research specifically examining sustainability procurement in Sri Lankan industries. Given the significant role of the telecommunication industry in the direct and indirect growth of the Sri Lankan economy, it is crucial to explore its potential contribution to sustainable development. Purpose: The specific objectives of the study were to examine the impact of Competitive pressure; Supplier A vailability; Top Management support and Regulatory pressure on the role they play in the implementation of sustainable procurement practices in Sri Lankan Telecommunication Industry. Method: A conceptual framework was developed to guide the study. The study used descriptive survey design and sampled employees in procurement departments of Telecommunication companies in Sri Lanka. Questionnaires were used to collect data which was analyzed according to the research obiectives. Conclusion: According to the findings of this research it reveals that he top Management Support and the regulatory pressure are the prime influences encouraging the Sustainability Procurement practices in Sri Lankan telecommunication industry. Specifically, the Top Management support has the highest level of impact on Sustainability Procurement practices. This paper provides useful insights in Sustainability Procurement practices amongst telecommunication industry in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, this study contributes to the existing literature on sustainable procurement by addressing a research gap that has been inadequately explored. By investigating the factors influencing sustainable procuremen practices in the telecommunication industry, it expands the body of knowledge in this field and provides valuable insights for future research endeayors.
