| dc.description.abstract | This study explores using fabric offcuts from regular manufacturing to make new garments in support of UN's goal for responsible consumption. The study proposes a systematic approach to extend textile lifespan by repurposing textile offcuts effectively. The research aims to evaluate offcuts for creating quality garments to reduce waste, increase textile longevity, and promote sustainability. The research primarily adds value in two ways. First, it established a method to recognize offcut-friendly garment designs by utilizing designers' expertise based on the common offcut shapes generated. Second, a computational method and tools are presented to evaluate the usability of offcuts to design new garment styles that are conducive to utilizing those offcuts. The study shows how these computational approaches can smoothly integrate into manufacturing processes. The methodology focuses on analyzing computerized markers to find suitable offcut fabrics for new garments. Key phases include offcut usability analysis, designing new garment designs, evaluating technical feasibility, and system testing and validations. Finally, based on results and findings, the research confirms and technically validates that clothing made from offcut fabrics are wearable, using modern validation methods. Overall, this finalizes a comprehensive method to implement technically feasible sustainable apparel design and manufacturing. | |
