| dc.description.abstract | This paper focuses on estimating the parameters of the governor system of the Lakvijaya Power Station (LVPS) which operates in the Turbine Load Control (TLC) mode. During sudden grid imbalances, even though the droop-controlled plants in the system try to stabilize the system frequency to its nominal value, the LVPS governors will function to bring the plant back to its set point swiftly, thereby hindering the system from restoring the demand-supply imbalance leading to system instability. We begin addressing this problem by determining the most fitting mathematical model for the LVPS governor from existing governor models. We model the LVPS along with the national grid connection in MATLAB Simulink, and insert typical parameters to the governor. Since performing tests on LVPS generators is not permitted, we utilize fault data to estimate the governor parameter values by simulating a known fault scenario and verify the estimated parameters using a different fault scenario. Then we tune the obtained parameters, and show through simulations that the plant would reach its preset active power set point gradually, mitigating further cascading imbalances in the grid. | |
